The Right has very similar things to say about the series – that it teaches something about how power is accumulated and how to resist it. Christian Toto writes for the conservative Breitbart website, "It's … alarming to consider how [Hunger Games'] fearsome government manipulates the images broadcast to the huddle masses when the Obama administration is strong-arming the press to make sure its best side is constantly shown".
In 2013, the Tea Party Patriots held a Hunger Games-themed youth event that encouraged young conservatives to identify with the Hunger Games' rebels. This came with a film trailer that lifted the movies' themes liberally, pitting adolescent Republicans against an evil Development Party that threatens to put everyone on welfare.
Certainly, the rebels of the books and films seem far more culturally aligned with rural America than its urban counterpart: they survive by hunting and know how to use weapons, while the decadent city appears cosmopolitan and sexually transgressive. You could even take a survivalist message out of this. Get your guns and head for the hills before Obama comes for you.
*WHY LEFT AND RIGHT BOTH LOVE THE HUNGER GAMES*
